The Winter Solstice is here!

Today December 21st is the shortest day of the year and the Winter Solstice will take place this afternoon at exactly 4:58 PM CET. This marks the beginning of Winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
For thousands of years, the rhythm of the seasons has been an anchor for our ancestors and the Winter Solstice, the Spring Equinox, the Summer Solstice and the Fall Equinox were real milestones of the year. Humans used to live in harmony with nature and its cycles, but we will all agree that with the type of life we have in our modern societies, we lost most of this connection, barely keeping in mind that the year is divided into four seasons… Nowadays, our year is capitalistically divided into tourism in Summer, the start of the school year in Autumn, Christmas gifts in Winter, and chocolate bunnies in Spring...
But the world, and therefore our lives constantly follow cycles of birth, growth, harvest, death and rebirth. These cycles are easily observable in nature, but we have to know that our bodies and minds follow the same universal melody too. We can’t sustainably deliver the same type and amount of energy, in the same direction, constantly. The changes in our physiology and our psychology may be extremely subtle depending on the individual, but they are very much present and it’s up to us to pay attention to those messages.
Winter is a moment of stillness. We experience the longest and darkest nights, everything slows down, nature lies dormant, diminishing its activity and its spending of energy to the lowest, focusing and pulling all its potential within the Earth. The energy of Winter is inviting us to go deep within ourselves, in a darkness and a silence that can hide unexpected treasures. We can enter a long personal dialogue with our soul and let new inspirations and new ideas flow, envisioning a brand new future that will really start with the fresh energy of Spring.
Tomorrow will start Capricorn season, with a whole new type of energy. After the very optimistic, enthusiastic and fun-loving Sagittarius, it will be time for us to talk business. The Sea-Goat will invite us to wisely and realistically define our goals for the next year, putting our mind into planning and hardworking. I will talk about it more in detail in my next post dedicated to Capricorn season.
For now, take the time to align your body and mind to the new winter energy. Nature is still, the trees are drawing their sap into their roots, brewing a new energy for the next year to come… You’re invited to do the same! To slow down and redirect your life energy to what’s really important, to your roots.
So for today, and even the next 3 days, take care of yourself, especially of your body! This is of utmost importance. No real spiritual growth can happen without honouring it. And it’s not because Venus is retrograde that we should not take care of ourselves! Take a bath or shower with mindfulness or in a ritualistic way, massage yourself, cook yourself healthy and generous meals that make you happy and warm... make your space cozy, smudge it to cleanse the air… Just create a beautiful and warm cocoon for the longest and darkest nights of the year. You can get out of it and deal with the Sea-Goat in a few days!
Have a wonderful start to the Winter season!
With Love!
